African-American Community Leaders in Los Angeles Get Behind Alex Villanueva in Historic Sheriff’s Race

Los Angeles, Calif.–In his race to be the next Los Angeles County Sheriff, Alex Villanueva has been gaining momentum; earning significant endorsements from influential leaders in the county’s African-American community. Upon receiving these endorsements, Villanueva released the following statement:

“We must get communities of all backgrounds involved in this historic effort to reform, rebuild, and restore the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s office,” said Villanueva. “And these endorsements are proof that we are moving in the right direction. I am humbled to have the support of such prominent Angelenos who have established themselves as leaders in our city’s African American community. As I continue to visit towns and neighborhoods across the county, it is evident that people want change and a trustworthy Sheriff who knows that community policing works, and will focus on recruiting deputies from within our own communities to the LASD.”
