Sheriff Villanueva has delivered
Real Reforms at the LASD.

All sheriff deputies on patrol are now equipped with body worn cameras. The previous Sheriffs and the Board of Supervisors had procrastinated for years debating and “studying” and delaying putting a camera on each deputy. Sheriff Villanueva, once in office, acted decisively.

Most diversity in Department history

Villanueva has promoted a record number of people of color, women, and LGBT deputies.  In fact, 19% of all LA County Deputies are now female. Close to 50% of the department are Latinos. And all recruiting is now done locally. The Department also today celebrates and honors breast cancer awareness, Veterans and LGBTQ months with badges.

Raising Standards

All applicants to become sheriff deputies must have an Associates or AA degree.  We are raising the standards for deputies as part of our mission to move from warrior to a guardian culture.

Villanueva is the first Sheriff to publicly ban “deputy gangs.”

Not only is he the first Sheriff to ban unlawful activity by Deputy subgroups, Sheriff Villanueva has a long history of standing up to the original leaders of deputy cliques including the disgraced and convicted former Sheriffs Tanaka and Baca. In fact, the “deputy cliques” had a nickname for Alex – “flecha” or arrow, as in straight as an arrow. Now that is a nickname to write mom home about!

All federal immigration agents have been removed from county jails and ICE transfers have been banned.

In fact, Sheriff Villanueva’s position on ICE goes further than even the ACLU and many immigrant advocacy organizations.

It is an absolute lie that the Board of Supervisors, former and present, are friendly to the Undocumented. In fact, Sheriff Villanueva caught the former County CEO, Sheriffs and the Democratic Board of Supervisors through the State Criminal Alien Assistance Program (SCAAP) program SELLING data on the undocumented to ICE.
